Brit shines in World Cup slalom
British skier Dave Ryding had a brilliant result in the World Cup slalom on 11th November 2012, in Levi, Finland.
Starting 55th, he put in a storming first run, clocking 55.15, 1.29secs off the leading time of 53.86 by Andre Myhrer. Dave's second run (56.91s) saw him finish 26th overall.
The result meant that Dave got his first (five) World Cup points. On his Facebook page, he commented, 'Great feeling crossing the line on the first run to see I had made the top 30.' Only the top thirty get a second run, and the chance to score points.
'I got a little nervous coming onto the last pitch 2nd run and was desperate for the finish line for my first points,' he added.
Dave Ryding learned to ski at Pendle ski club, in Lancashire, on a dry slope. His first experience of skiing on snow was on a family holiday in the French resort of Samoens. He made the English Schools team, then the England ski team, the British Development team, and finally the British senior team. He competed for Great Britain in the slalom and giant slalom at the 2010 winter Olympics in Vancouver.
Dave races next in the Europa Cup, on 24th and 25th November 2012.
