Val Thorens opens two days early

Val Thorens opened two days early - on Thursday 22nd November 2012, instead of Saturday 24th November. It was an opportunity for the lift company to test the revamped Funitel Péclet. The Cascades chairlift was open too.

With very little fanfare, Val Thorens opened a couple of days early - with just the Funitel Péclet, and the Cascades chairlift running.

Over the summer, the lift company has replaced all the cabins of the Funitel Péclet, and the drive system. There are now more cabins, meaning that the lift takes more people up per hour. This should reduce queues. Thursday and Friday were an opportunity to run it, and iron out any technical problems.

There were few skiers around, but they were able to enjoy a small number of pistes in excellent condition - a result of the resort's investment in snow canons. Les Dalles, from Cascades chairlift, and Lac Blanc, from Funitel Peclet, were tip-top, with no stones.

Some of the ski clubs made use of Les Dalles, for giant slalom training. (We heard that the French national team was here training on Wednesday).
