FIS races in Val Thorens, November 2012

There were two FIS slaloms on the stadium in Val Thorens, on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th November 2012.

Local racer Corentin Aurard excelled in both races.

In the slalom on Wednesday, there was a struggle to get the piste ready for the race, as it was short of snow until very recently - particularly the drag lift track. Coaches were allowed to use the drag lift, but the racers were directed to the Cascades chairlift, then they had to walk a short way to the top of the course.

Austrian Thomas Krautschneider won Wednesday's race, with Guillaume Grand of France second, and Corentin Aurard third. British skier Billy Major came in a creditable 31st.

Corentin Aurard is the 18-year-old son of two Val Thorens ski instructors. He made good use of his familiarity with the local slalom stadium on Thursday, winning the race. Two other French skiers, Maxime Rizzo and Guillaume Grand, were second and third respectively, and Billy Major was 26th.
