Val Thorens events 2013-14
There's always something going on in Val Thorens! Amongst the regular Val Thorens events are festivities at Christmas, New Year, and Easter. In the school holidays, there's entertainment for kids, as well as torchlit descents by the French ski school, and fireworks. You can see top-class sports events in Val Thorens too, including the Trophée Andros (racing on the ice circuit), and ski cross and boarder cross races. These were the events in the winter season 2013-14.

Val Thorens events: weekly highlights
Saturday 26th April - Friday 2nd May 2014: Dutch week
Dutch week. The resort goes orange, in honour of Koningsdag, the King's birthday.
Thursday 1st - Sunday 4th May 2014: Apotheose Days
To celebrate the end of the season, there are a number of events as part of Apotheose Days. €20 for a 4 day pass, €10 for a 1 day pass. You can see the full programme on the Val Thorens tourist office website. These are some of the highlights:
Thursday 1st May 2014: Handiski speed record attempt
9-11am, piste des Arolles. Attempt on the speed record for skiing in a chair, with Julien Brunet and his pilot Billy Favre. Continues on Friday.
Thursday 1st May 2014: Dynafit ski test
9am-1pm, place Caron. Free loan of touring skiing kit.
Thursday 1st May 2014: Freestyle coaching
10am-5pm, Chalet de Thorens. Initiation with a big air bag, and an instructor on hand. Continues until Sunday 4th May.
From Thursday 1st May: Bungy Ejection
11am to 1pm, & 4 to 8pm, rue Caron. Until Sunday 4th May.
From Thursday 1st May 2014: Kids' fun park
12 to 6pm, place Caron. Kids' Park. Until Sunday 4th May.
From Thursday 1st May 2014: Waterslide
1 to 5pm, Stade. Ski or snowboard across the water. Until Sunday 4th May.

Val Thorens events for winter 2013/14
These are the special events in Val Thorens for the 2013/14 winter season which have been announced so far.
Val Thorens events: November 2013
Saturday 23rd November 2013: season opening
Val Thorens opens for the 2013/14 ski season.
Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th November 2013: Ski Force Winter Tour
A chance to test the new models of ski from eighteen brands. DJ, and an open-air concert in place Caron.
Saturday 30th November & Sunday 1st December 2013: Rock On Snowboard Tour
Free tests of the latest snowboards for the 2013-14 season, from thirty brands, including Burton, K2, Nidecker, Oakley, and Roxy. There'll be a kids' snowgarden, a temporary snowpark, and rock concerts in the evening.
Val Thorens events: December 2013
Friday 6th to Sunday 8th December 2013: Trophée Andros in Val Thorens
The first stage of the car and motocross ice circuit competition is in Val Thorens. Jean-Philippe Dayraut will be trying to repeat last year's win.
Saturday 7th to Saturday 14th December 2013: Kick-Off Dutch Wintersport Season
The Dutch Kick-Off week in Val Thorens is organised by radio station RTL5. There are ski tests, and entertainment, including a concert by rappers The Opposites at the 360 bar. Other events are at the Snowcafe, and Le Bowling.
Thursday 12th to Sunday 15th December 2013: Skicross World Cup
The best ski cross competitors in the world will be in Val Thorens for this World Cup stage. Training on Thursday and Friday, qualifications on Saturday, and semi-finals and finals on Sunday. Free for spectators.
Saturday 14th to Saturday 21st December 2013: Ski and Boarderweek in Val Thorens
Ski and Boarderweek week brings mainly German snowboarders and skiers to Val Thorens. There are ski and snowboard contests, including on the airbag and on the boardercross course. They set up an Easy Fun Park on the Voie Lactée, with free coaching by experts. There's also entertainment, including live concerts, and a freestyle ski show.

Saturday 21st to Friday 27th December 2013: Magical Christmas
Father Christmas will be staying in a cabin in Val Thorens this year, so there's an opportunity to meet him. A Christmas Eve show at the Rond Point des Pistes, and a children's torchlit descent.
Sunday 29th & Monday 30th December 2013: SX Rider Kids Skicross
The best 12, 14, and 16 year old Skicross racers.
Tuesday 31st December 2013: New Year's Eve (Valtho Crazy Night)
There'll be a torchlit descent by the instructors of the ESF, entertainment for children, a ski and snow freestyle show, live concert, and fireworks at midnight. This is what it was like a couple of years ago:
Val Thorens events: January 2014
Sunday 5th January 2014: Savoie Snowboard Tour
For competitors under 20 years old, Val Thorens is one of eight stages on this Snowboard Tour. There are competitions in parallel giant slalom, boardercross, and slopestyle.
Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th January 2014: French Championships of Snow Biking
About a hundred competitors are expected for the French national championships in snow biking (snow scoot, in French). There'll be a timed slalom race, a freestyle jumps contest, a Scootcross with four competitors at a time (presumably on the Boardercross course), and a parallel slalom.

Friday 14th February 2014: Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day in Val Thorens means releasing Chinese Lanterns from place Caron, and you can attach a message of love to your lantern.
Friday 28th February 2014: Tournoi des 6 stations rugby on snow
This was brilliant last year. Six teams, representing six different ski resorts, play short games of Sevens Rugby on snow. There were some ex-internationals taking part, including Marc Lievremont. Very popular, and highly recommended. See the video from 2013:
Friday 28th February 2014: Rossignol Demo Tour
A chance to test the latest skis and snowboards from Rossignol. There'll also be entertainment and games.

Another chance to test the latest skis and snowboards from Rossignol. There'll also be entertainment and games.
Wednesday 26th to Friday 28th March 2014: Festivaltho
Festivaltho is an electro festival based at the Chalet du Thorens. At one time, they built a big kicker there, and it was a mixture of dance music and jumps by pro-riders. Now it seems it's just music, which is disappointing, as it's not that much different to what goes on at the Folie Douce and the Chalet du Thorens the rest of the time.

Sunday 6th April 2014: 3 Valleys Enduro Rally
A series of 'specials' set up around the Three Valleys. Enter as a team of three, and go and try the Big Air Bag, giant slalom, freeride course, ski cross, and more.
Saturday 26th April to Saturday 3rd May 2014: Dutch week
The traditional Dutch week in the spring in Val Thorens, to celebrate Koningsdag (the King's birthday - actually the 27th April, but to be celebrated on the 26th as it is a Saturday).
